Corporate History

Our Corporate History

Encore Homes Ltd. was incorporated in Edmonton on Jan. 16, 1985 under the Alberta Business Corporations Act. The founding directors of the company were Doug and Linda Hoffman.

As president, Doug Hoffman focused the company operations on providing high-quality, affordable homes to the Edmonton Metro housing market. The company slogan "Expect to be Impressed" has become the guiding principle in how operations are managed.

Since 1985, Encore has successfully built and sold over 2,000 homes in Edmonton and the surround communites — one at a time, to satisfied home buyers. Encore has been a member in good standing with the Alberta New Home Warranty Program since inception and has not experienced any unresolved claims or conciliations during its membership.

During the past 30 years, Encore has achieved a great deal of recognition as a reputable Alberta Home Builder. This includes:

  1. Awarded the contract for the construction and exposition of the Klondike Days Dream Home 9 times during the period 1985 through to 1996.

  2. Awarded numerous "Awards of Excellence" from the Government of Alberta and the Alberta Home Builders Association for exceptional design (see Awards & Honours

  3. Received the designation of "Master Home Builder" in 1993 from the Professional Home Builders Institute of Alberta.

  4. Received the designation of "Moisture Smart Builder" in 2005 from the Alberta New Home Warranty Program.

  5. Named by CustomerInsight as Builder of Choice for the Edmonton Region in 2019 and Finalist as Builder of Choice in 2020.

In 1994, Mr. Hoffman agreed to join Encore Homes Ltd. with the Mancap Ventures group of companies. While maintaining his position as President of Encore Homes, he also assumed the position of President for Lincolnberg Homes Corp.

In 1996, a financial merger of Encore Homes Ltd. and Lincolnberg Homes Corp. was completed, and Primark Residential Inc. was created with Doug Hoffman as President. Under Mr. Hoffman's direction, Primark completed in excess of 300 homes in just over two years.

In September of 1998, Mr. Hoffman reached an agreement with his equity partners to "de-merge" the operations of Lincolnberg Homes and Encore Homes, with Encore Homes resuming operations under the new name: Encore Master Builder Inc.

Next-Gen Ownership

On January 1, 2011, Mr. Hoffman agreed to sell 50% ownership in Encore Master Builder Inc. to his children: Kimberly Gibbons, Kevin Read, Keith Gibbons, and Amanda Read. On January 1, 2017, Mr. Hoffman sold his remaining shares. With strong educational backgrounds, industry experience, and a variety of skills and training, our new Board of Directors is well positioned to lead Encore into the future.

The focus of Encore Master Builder has been to continue as a leading Edmonton home builder known for providing quality construction, professional service, and excellent value. At Encore Master Builder, we work hard to ensure that our new home purchasers continue to Expect to be Impressed.
